This is a 2 part assignment that relates to your Book Club Blogging Unit and connects to skills you have learned throughout the course. The two parts of this assignment are together worth 15 % of your total grade. Part 1: Individual Journal Report. Drawing evidence from your posts to the Book Club Blog page and your work on the short story unit, Student Progress Report and Student Self Reflection you are going to write a journal report with the purpose of teaching a Grade 9 student how to become a stronger reader. Your report should include: · Two paragraphs: each should focus on 1 of the two different skills you think are most important for a strong reader to have. Provide 3 examples from your own experience per paragraph. · A diagram showing data to support your points…. This may take the form of a pie chart, graph, table, survey or diagrammatic illustration labeled appropriately. · Write in 2nd person – you are the expert giving advice to an incoming grade 9 student. · 1 page type written, 12 point Times New Roman or Arial font, double-spaced. · You must submit your hand written rough draft unless you have made arrangements with your teacher as a result of an IEP. You will have two class periods to work on this section of the culminating. Part 2: Group Book Talk In this part of the assignment you will be presenting your book to the class with your group. It will be a 10 – 15 minute presentation depending on the size of your group. Each person is responsible for talking for about 3 minutes. For the visual aspect of the presentation create a new cover for the book using symbols from the book, focusing on a major theme. Despite the fact that you are working with your group you will be graded individually for your contribution. Your group presentation must: · Talk about the major characters in the book and their motivations. · Outline the plot and describe the climax · Tell us how the setting contributes to the action. · Assign a genre and say why you think the genre fits. · Tell how much time approximately it too you as a group on average to read the book. · Give an opinion on the book describing what you liked about the it and what you didn’t. · Explain the reasoning behind your groups choices on the cover redesign you created. The Book Talk presentations will take place on Jan 20th and 21st.
