Part 1: Follow the links to articles on issues related to your book. Read them, then post a comment that in several sentences summarizes what theme (big idea) you think the book and the articles have in common. Respond to 1 other person's comment. Link 1 Link 2 Part 2: A. What's going on? ... Post a comment to Activity 4 labelled Part 2. Your comment should include a summary of the book up to the end of chunk 4. It should cover the 5 W's and H - Use the following bullet points as a guide.
B. Post a comment that identifies a different theme that you think exists in your book. Search the internet for media ( a news article, song, movie... etc.) that you think captures or represents a theme ( big idea) in your book. Post a link to that piece of media and comment on 1 other group members post to B.
You have read chunk 3 of your books right? I hope so because now you will be vocab sleuths .
You must search out and find 5 words or phrases that confounded, challenged or intrigued you. Post a comment that lists the 5 words or phrases and identify the root of each word. Provide the definition ( your own or one from a legitimate source such as the Webster's Dictionary ) for each word. Then.... explain in 1 paragraph per word why you think the author chose to use that particular word or phrase and what you think they were hoping to achieve stylistically by using it. Finally... in one or two sentences describe whether or not you think the author chose his/ her words well and what might have worked better for you as a reader. Group members were asked to email me their completed annotated pages from the book they are reading for their book club. Those images are pasted below with their reflections posted as comments.
